Smoke on the Water

…or more accurately, smoke in the kitchen…but it doesn’t make for a very catchy title.

Yes, people…I’m “cooking” again and my kitchen resembles this:

…and the boys are choking on the fumes as they gasp “Thanks (cough) Mom…(cough)”

So now we’re just waiting for the smoke to clear so we can make out the living room furniture again. Everything looks like a mirage….

The kitchen exhaust fan is laboring at high speed and sounds like it’s beginning to die a slow and painful death. I may as well accept the fact that I am missing the cooking gene. My sisters both got it….hell, even my brother manages to effortlessly whip up a meal.

So, why not me??

I comfort myself with the fact that if I did know how to cook, I’d probably lose my girlish figure…but I know that’s not even close to being accurate. Truth be told, the frozen dinner industry would undoubtedly perish if not for my steady financial support.

They’re welcome.

As for the boys…ignorance really does equal bliss…resulting in an extremely limited menu of tried-and-true, pretty-impossible-to-screw-up dishes.

Ya just have to learn to deal with the smoke.

You could have all of the Food Network's Iron Chefs prepping for a big meal, but it's always going to be hard to top the magic of Stouffer's Swedish Meatballs. Deal with it, Emeril.

Aw, SG....a man after my own heart. Truth is, those dinners have often sustained me...it's gotta be easy and it's gotta be fast...funny how it never looks like the meal on the box, though...

There are just so many other ways to spend your time. I've lost all interest in cooking,s during the week anyway.
