Barking Up The Wrong Tree

It started innocently enough. My friend Sue was telling me that she was watching a movie on teevee that she’s always wanted to see.

That made me think of another movie, but I can’t remember the name. It starred Deborah what’s-her-name and that actress/singer who sang in that movie with Elvis once? And Deborah what’s-her-name dies at the end? Do you know which one I mean??

I know it’s not Deborah Harry…and that’s the name that keeps coming to mind. (And YES, I realize that Deborah Harry is a singer and not an actress, thankyouverymuch.) But, don’t you hate when this happens? My mother used to say that if you stop consciously trying to remember something, your sub-conscious will randomly keep looking for it…kind of like a computer program that’s running in the background. Only with my computer, that means everything else runs v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y till it’s done scanning, so now I feel like I’m running in first gear.

And now I’ve got a mental image of some poor stressed woman frantically poring over file after file in some over-stuffed filled-to-capacity file cabinet…not even sure what she’s looking for…but knowing it’s in there…somewhere. She’s got reading glasses on top of her head and a few errant curls periodically fall into her eyes and she blows them away with an irritated little half puff, half sigh.

Gee, I wonder what kind of hits I’d get if I googled “Deborah/Singer/Elvis/Dies”? Do you think I’d find the answer I’ve been looking for?

Maybe it’ll come to me tomorrow…when I’m bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.
