A Little Bit Of Pooh

Help me if you can-
I’ve gotta get back to the house at Pooh Corner by 1-
You’d be surprised…there’s so much to be done-
Count all the bees in the hive-
Chase all the clouds from the sky-
Back to the days of Christopher Robin and Pooh…..

Winnie The Pooh is one of my favorite Disney characters. Not Mickey Mouse…not Cinderella…it’s Pooh-bear all the way. When the boys were little, I could sit for hours and watch videos of Pooh and his friends on their adventures. Sometimes, I even watched them with the boys.

Pooh, to me, encompasses the hopeful optimism and sweet naïveté of the young…or, the young at heart. And one time…he ate too much honey and got stuck in the hole to Rabbit’s house. Of course, I can totally relate.

Pooh tends to carry his extra weight in his middle…just like moi. He’s particularly afraid of Heffalumps and Weasels …and I’m very afraid of getting the mumps...and wrinkles. See? Pooh and I are practically soulmates.

His best friend is a little guy named Piglet

…and I was friends in junior high once with a girl named Peggy. Of course, she was taller than I was…

His other friend is a high-strung character named Tigger …who more than likely would be diagnosed in today’s society with ADD…and Taylor’s (age 16) always been pretty high-maintenance, so I can understand.

It’s hard sometimes for Pooh to think and….well, that’s me most of the time. Especially if I need to think straight.

I also share Pooh’s eternal optimism…and probably more than a little of his simplistic, fundamental belief that in the end, it’ll all somehow be okay.

For in this time of such uncertainty and so much struggle….couldn’t we all use a little bit of Pooh?

I rest my case.

Check out "The Tao of Pooh" for even more insight into why Pooh is the ultimate optimist.

When Pooh is lost, he keeps walking in circles and finding the pit instead of his house. Pooh innocently changes his plan. Only in searching for the pit can he break the cycle and find his house.

Tao truth: we only find the important things in life when we are searching for something else.

Geez, I'm never this deep.

Hey Straight Guy! You found me!
"Tigger is all right really," said Piglet lazily.
"Of course he is," said Christopher Robin.
"Everybody is really," said Pooh.
"That's what I think," said Pooh.
"But I don't suppose I'm right," he said.
"Of course you are," said Christopher Robin.
Wow....you ARE deep. And who knew I was so insightful??

I LOVE The Tao of Pooh! So deep...so meaningful....so NOT Disney. A refreshing change from the sickening-sweetness of Mickey and the gang.
